• Oral reading is characterized by frequent pauses, repetitions, guessing at words, and missing some sounds and parts of words in the multisyllabic at the beginning, middle, or at the end of the words

• Cannot figure out how to read words he has not seen

• Has difficulty in spelling particularly words he has not seen and the longer/multisyllabic words

• His reading is done with great effort and is very slow and has devoted most of his time to figure out how to sound out and read the words
