Teaching your child to sound out words for reading & spelling could be more harmful than helpful!

"Sound them out..." Teaching your child to sound out words for reading could be more harmful than helpful!

The sounds of the language that has an alphabetic system like English and French are the very foundation for learning to read—basic literacy in general: read, write, spell and comprehend. If the child has learned to decode incorrectly, it would be difficult for him to connect the sounds for reading and spelling, thus his foundation for learning to read has started the wrong way.

The outcome of teaching your child to read and spell because he has not learned to read at school could be even more harmful than helpful especially if you're not in this field. It is like building your own house even if you are not a skilled contractor!
